Description: This dance workshop is the ultimate guide to Oriental dancers, fascinated by the Egyptian singer, Umm Kulthūm, also known as the Voice of Egypt or Kawkab Asharq (The Star of the East/Orient). Dancers will learn the art of tarab by incorporating it into their dance. Tarab foregrounds the dancer's voice through interpretation, while embodying and performing to this music of Umm Kulthūm. This workshop will help dancers connect with the audience through the interpretation of Umm Kulthūm, a towering figure in the field of Oriental dance. This workshop is for all levels.
Workshop cost: Discounted rate if Paypal $50 to [email protected] by February 15th, 2020 or paypal $60 afterwards or cash at the door. Students can bring a hip scarf and comfortable dancewear. If students don't have a hip scarf, they can rent one for $5.
